First Summer Heat, Then Rain: Changeable Weather in Mallorca

A final burst of summer — and then the turn

Today Mallorca still feels like midsummer: the sun is blazing, the thermometer climbs up to 36 °C. Especially inland, around places like Inca or Sineu, you notice it; on Plaça Major the alleys are slowly emptying, and in the evening you lie on the beach only late.

Where does the heat come from?

The warm air comes from North Africa and today again pushes a dry, hot wind over the island. You can feel it: in the morning a light Tramuntana breeze, at noon almost already still heat — exactly the kind where glasses fog up faster than the tables.

But the pause is short

Already from tomorrow afternoon the weather turns. A cold front approaches from the northwest, bringing dense clouds, rain and noticeably cooler temperatures. Especially on Tuesday there may be heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms. The Spanish weather service has already issued the island-wide Yellow Weather Warning.

What that means in practice: short-lived showers can break out suddenly, gusts near the coast are possible, and in the mountains you should not head out without proper clothing. For beachgoers this also means: fold up your sun umbrellas and secure loose beach gear.

Tips for the next few days

\n

A few simple everyday tips: Plan trips to the Tramuntana mountains for the dry morning hours. Small markets like the one in Pollença often still take place, but bring a light rain jacket. Those commuting to work should expect slower traffic through heavy rain on Tuesday — especially on the MA-13 and access routes to Palma.

And one more thing: The heat today is annoying but short. Enjoy the last warm evenings, perhaps a late beach break between Cala Millor and S'Arenal — tomorrow many things will be gray and wet.
