Mobility meets hotel comfort – and Palma is at its heart
Something familiar is happening again in Mallorca: a cooperation between the hotel industry and mobility services, but without much fanfare — similar to Flight meets car rental: What the cooperation between Air Europa and OK Mobility really means for Mallorca. Meliá and OK Mobility have agreed on a partnership that aims to make travel on the island and worldwide a little easier. Members of the frequent-stayer program MeliáRewards can now earn points when renting a vehicle from OK Mobility. Specifically, there are six points awarded per euro or dollar spent.
The rules are kept simple and apply at the more than 70 locations that OK Mobility operates in 17 countries across four continents. The goal is straightforward handling: hotel reservation, car rental booking, points collection — all on one customer account. The agreement was signed at OK Mobility's headquarters in Palma de Mallorca. The respective CEOs met there to make the collaboration official.
That two companies with Mallorcan roots are entering this partnership gives it a local touch. Meliá was founded in Palma in 1956 and today operates over 400 hotels across nine brands. OK Mobility started in 2004 as a local car rental and has developed into an international provider. On Mallorca, both companies have a presence: OK Mobility is at Palma airport, in the Porto Pi shopping center and with a showroom in the Son Castelló business area.
For the island this means more than just convenience for guests. It also means local jobs remain in focus, service providers along the travel chain become more interconnected and mobility spending continues to flow into the local economy. On a mild December evening walking along the Passeig Mallorca, you can hear a mix of conversations, taxi traffic and the occasional cry of a seagull — customers, hotel facades, car rental desks: all parts of the same small ecosystem.
There is also a point of contact regarding sustainability: both companies are members of Exceltur, the association in which key tourism institutes are represented and which discusses responsible concepts. Meliá is named in publications as one of the most sustainable hotel companies in Europe; that is a label welcomed on Mallorca.
What does this mean concretely for travelers? Those who regularly stay in Meliá properties can now more easily combine their stays with mobility services and thus collect points faster. This is especially practical for short trips: arriving at the airport, getting the hotel key organized, picking up the car — everything from one source instead of losing time at three different counters. Frequent travelers should still check the participation terms on the official program pages before booking, so that point accrual and redemption are clear.
This is a cooperation that brings everyday benefits rather than a big PR show. When engines start near the airport and travelers collect their luggage, every minute and every offer that makes the journey easier counts. That two well-known Mallorcan brands are coming together here is a small vote of confidence for the island's economy — and for everyone who simply wants their trip to run smoothly.
Outlook: In the coming months the cooperation should become visible in everyday life: more combined offers, notices during booking processes and perhaps special promotions around holiday periods, such as Palma launches pre-Christmas discount weeks for residents — winter treats for locals. For Mallorca it remains important that such alliances maintain the balance between guest benefits and local value. Regular visitors will quickly notice whether they do.
