A 26-year-old Argentine woman has been missing in Palma since October 14. An Instagram post showing her 'safe' has caused confusion — a rally is planned for today.
Missing since October 14 — Social media message causes unrest
In Palma, there is no trace of a 26-year-old Argentine woman. She arrived at the beginning of October as an au pair on the island and lived with a German family near the city center. Since October 14, there has been no sign of life.
A few days ago, a message suddenly appeared on her Instagram profile: allegedly she is 'well' and back at work. The family reacted perplexed. She says she posted nothing and suspects that someone unfamiliar is using the accounts to complicate the search.
Family and neighbors: suspicion instead of relief
I spoke with a neighbor who often stands in the small cafe at the corner in the mornings. 'That doesn't add up,' she said, shrugging. 'She is new here, was shy and always left the house at 8 a.m. to take the kids to school.'
The family has filed a police report; that is confirmed by a police spokesman on request, without giving details. Investigations are ongoing. So far there are no public leads.
Social media in particular makes the matter complicated. An alleged update can give hope — or hinder the search. Experts warn: profiles can be hacked or manipulated, photos easily shared. For the bereaved, it's exhausting.
Rally in the park behind the station
Today at 1:00 p.m., friends and supporters are calling for a small rally in the park behind Palma's train station. Candles, photos and placards are planned. 'We want to show that we won't give up,' says one of the organizers who wishes to remain anonymous. Many will bring blankets and a thermos — it will be chilly in the shade of the trees.
Anyone who saw something should contact the family. Neighbors are also asked to check surveillance cameras. In such cases, every hint counts, according to the usual police line.
The city remains uneasy: cafés fill up, tourists pass by, and for those who know the missing woman, the clock ticks differently. We will stay on it — and share information as soon as verified news is available.
If you have any information, please contact the appropriate authorities. Please respect the family's privacy during this difficult time.
