Starting today, Sineu belongs to night owls and market wanderers on three evenings each month: on September 5, 12, and 19, the stalls will open from 8:00 PM to midnight. Those arriving by bike or on foot often have the best story afterward — and sometimes a small bag of freshly baked bread.

What you can expect

About 100 stalls are announced: crafts, jewelry, regional foods, and small manufacturers from the island's center. I’ve been there in the early evening and can say the mix is pleasantly relaxed. One stall sells handmade ceramics, another wooden musical instruments. And yes: it smells of grilled cheese, sobrasada, and roasted almonds — typically Mallorcan, somehow comforting.

The centerpiece is the Plaza, the narrow lanes around the church, and a few pop-up stages. Local musicians play softer tunes, not the 'loud, louder, loudest' program some know. It feels more like a stroll with a soundtrack.

• Parking in Sineu is limited in the evenings; the train station is within walking distance, so if you arrive by train you avoid the parking hunt.

The weather in mid-September is often pleasantly warm in the evening, but a light jacket isn’t a bad idea in case it cools off around midnight. Strollers can struggle in the narrow lanes in places, so a carrier or a solid plan may be wiser.

Why it's worth it

Such markets are more than stalls: you meet people who make things in small workshops, you sample local specialties, and you take stories home. For visitors as well as locals, it's a small reminder that Mallorca is more than sunbathers on beach loungers and hotel pools.
