This evening Palma invites you to Art Night: galleries and museums offer free admission and special programs—perfect for an evening stroll through the old town.

Nit de l'Art: Palma becomes a long gallery

As the sun slowly sinks in the west today around 6:00 PM, something special is happening again in Palma's city center: the art night Nit de l'Art. Fourteen smaller and larger galleries open their doors and stay open until 11:00 PM. The twist: admission is free. No fuss, just doors, art on the walls, and voices that spark conversation.

I went to such a night a few years ago — you meet more neighbors than you think: couples with bags from the weekly market, students with sketchbooks, and a few tourists who have gotten lost and are even happier about it. Tonight, larger venues are also taking part: places like Es Baluard, Casal Solleric, and CaixaForum have announced special programs. That means lectures, short tours, and sometimes even live music in the courtyard. Practical if you plan in advance and map out the short route through the old town.

Practical information for the evening

Start: 6:00 PM. End: 11:00 PM. Free admission. Recommended: comfortable shoes. Palma can be moody in the evenings — a breeze comes from the sea, and on the plaza or in narrow streets it gets crowded. If you come by car, it's better to park a little outside and walk ten minutes through the old town. Many galleries are close to each other, for example in the area around Carrer de Sant Miquel and La Llotja.

Tip: Start early — around 6:30 to 7:00 PM it's still relaxed. By around 9:00 PM it often gets busier, then the smaller spaces are very lively. Take your time for a conversation with a curator or a gallerist; such nights are ideal for that. And if you get hungry: Some cafĂ©s and bars have extended opening hours and offer fresh coffee or a small tapas selection.

Why a Visit Is Worth It

Such evenings provide a quick, honest overview of the local scene. You see young positions alongside established artists, discover photography, painting, sculpture — and sometimes unusual projects that you might easily overlook on a normal day. It is less formal than a vernissage, more like a stroll that stops at beautiful, surprising places.

If you head out spontaneously today: bring a light jacket, plan two to three hours, and let yourself wander. Art nights are small neighborhood celebrations — loud, friendly, and sometimes quite inspiring.
