This coming Saturday, galleries and museums in Palma will stay open late into the evening. Here are practical tips and a personal plan for Nit de l’Art.
Nit de l’Art on Saturday: Why I’m excited (and what you should know)
\nThe “Long Night of Art” in Palma, the Nit de l’Art, is for me one of those evenings when the city feels a little more intimate, dense, and surprising. Since 1997 it has drawn art lovers and the curious through the streets. This year marks the 29th edition – and around 14 galleries open their doors from 18:00 to 23:00. Museums and cultural centers like Es Baluard, the Fundació Miró and La Misericordia are also involved.
\nPractical info at a glance
\nWhen: Saturday, 6:00 pm – 11:00 pm.
\nWhere: Various galleries and museums in Palma (Old Town and some buildings on Paseo del Borne).
\nCost: Many events are free, some special exhibitions require admission or reservations.
The full program is published online by the organizers – it's best to double-check shortly before to see whether registration is necessary for a particular exhibit.
\nMy tip route (easy to walk)
\nI like to start in the early evening near Plaça Major, stroll along Carrer dels Oms and make my first stop at a small gallery on Carrer de Sant Miquel. Then on to the Marina, past a bodega that serves tapas late — handy for a quick break. Around 9:00 p.m. a detour to Es Baluard is worth it: the atmosphere there is often particularly charged.
\nWhat to pack
\nComfortable shoes, a light sweater (evenings can get chilly), cash for small donations or drinks, and, if you plan to stay longer: a personal map with addresses. Some places are small; lines can form.
\nWhy go?
\nNit de l’Art isn’t a stiff museum experience but more of an urban gathering: artists, collectors, neighbors and visitors mingle. You discover young talents, see works by established names, and meet people you wouldn’t meet otherwise. For locals, it’s a nice opportunity to rediscover their city in the evening.
\nI’ll head out from around 7:30 p.m.—perhaps we’ll run into each other on Carrer de la Missió or in front of one of the small gallery windows. Have fun exploring, and remember: art takes time. Give yourself time for it.
