Construction Work in Palma: Taxi Rank Moved in Front of Terminal, Terminal D Temporarily Closed

Due to renovation work at the arrivals terminal, the taxi rank at Palma Airport has been moved to the left side. Terminal D will be closed for about half a year.

Taxi Rank at Palma Airport Relocated – What Travelers Should Know Now

If you arrive at Palma Airport in the coming days, don’t be surprised: the taxi rank directly in front of the arrivals terminal has been relocated. Instead of stopping on the right as usual, taxis are now picking up passengers on the left — a temporary measure prompted by ongoing renovation work.

Why is this happening?

The external area of the arrivals section is currently undergoing a comprehensive renovation. According to airport operator Aena, among other things the roof as well as the climate and lighting systems are being replaced. To make room for equipment, materials and security posts, the area has been reorganized. Sounds dry on paper, but for pedestrians and drivers it means different routes, new signs and more barriers.

Insider tip: Be sure to follow the yellow signs and the instructions from staff. On the first day many travelers walked a few steps back and then took the detour — usually much faster than searching around randomly.

Terminal D closed for about six months

In addition, Terminal D is now temporarily closed. The work is expected to run until April. In the meantime all flights normally handled there will be processed through Terminal C. That means: more baggage tugs, changed processing routes and generally longer walks for connecting passengers.

What this means in practice: passengers who normally checked in at the counter in D now have to walk further to C or optionally use the internal airport shuttle. Therefore, allow extra time when departing — an additional 30 to 45 minutes on some days is not unrealistic.

Tips for Arrivals and Departures

- Arrive a few minutes earlier than usual, especially if you’re traveling with children or lots of luggage.
- If you have a booked taxi: clarify the meeting point with the driver in advance. Some taxi operators are now using the left forecourt by the terminal.
- Pay attention to the display boards: gates and baggage belts can change at short notice due to the relocation.
- If you have questions: the information staff at the exit will gladly help — usually with practical route instructions.

The construction site is inconvenient for passengers, but necessary. Anyone who has stood under a newly renovated roof knows: in the end it’s quieter, brighter and usually a bit more pleasant. Until then: be patient, stay alert and enjoy a coffee at Terminal C if you can.

Expected reopening: April (according to the airport operator). Until then: rethink your taxi stop and plan a few extra minutes.
