After the collision near the Son Castelló inspection station, the circle of those involved has widened: three fellow passengers reported to the police, while the suspected driver remains in custody.

New development after night crash near Son Castelló

The sad news from the weekend is still resonating in Palma's neighborhoods. In the early hours of Saturday morning, a young motorcyclist lost his life in the crash near the TÜV inspection station Son Castelló. Since then, three other people who were in the same vehicle have voluntarily reported to the police.

What is known so far

The suspected driver, a 19-year-old man, had already been arrested earlier and remains in custody. According to investigations by the Policía Nacional, the vehicle was allegedly not legally in his possession at the time of the accident. There are also indications that the young man did not have a valid driving license and had multiple prior police records.

The three other passengers – two women and a man, who according to neighbors presented themselves at the station on Sunday – were briefly detained and then released. They are not currently facing pretrial detention; the authorities are reviewing their statements and any possible responsibilities.

Forensic work and residents' accounts

The crash happened in the early morning hours when a light mist still hung over the Carretera toward Son Castelló and the streetlights cast a pale glow. Residents reported emergency vehicles, sirens and a cordon that remained in place into the morning. A woman from the neighborhood, who only gave her first name, Carmen, said: "You rarely hear something like this here. We were all shocked."

Evidence collection and technical examinations are ongoing. The public prosecutor's office is awaiting the results before deciding on any charges. Among other things, it will be clarified whether the driver fled the scene or if there are indications of endangering others.

Why the case is attracting attention

Fatal accidents always raise many questions: Who accelerated, who sat where, and when did participants leave the scene? This case is notable because several passengers were involved besides the driver and because the vehicle apparently was not being operated legally.

The investigations are still open. Relatives of the deceased have been informed; the police are asking for discretion and are currently withholding detailed information in order not to jeopardize the investigation.
