Due to the Patronal Festival honoring Mare de Déu de la Salut, the street in front of Palma's Cathedral will be fully closed on Saturday from 12:00 PM. Bus lines, parking options, and residents' traffic are affected — plan accordingly.
Big Patronal Festival shuts down area around the Cathedral
\nIf you planned to come to Palma on Saturday: forget about a quiet entry. The city is preparing for the Patronal Festival in honor of Mare de Déu de la Salut, and the façade in front of the Cathedral (La Seu) will be closed due to a concert in Parc de la Mar. From 12:00 PM, the street in front of the Cathedral will be closed to traffic in both directions.
\n\nWhat exactly is closed — and who is affected
\nThe closure runs along the seafront promenade in front of the Cathedral; access around Parc de la Mar and parts of Passeig des Born are restricted. Short-term parking around Plaça Reina and Paseo Mallorca is also only partially usable. Emergency services will of course have access, but expect detours.
\n\nOperations for buses and stops
\nThe municipal transport company has already announced changes: EMT line 25 will be diverted, and the regular stop at Parc de la Mar is cancelled for the day. Those who usually use this line should check the information on the electronic boards or plan a stop at Rambla/La Llotja. Taxis will be dropped off at designated locations; ask the driver beforehand for the best drop-off.
\n\nOur advice (very personal)
\nIf possible, leave the car at home. Walking into the old town is often faster than a fiddly detour by car. Those arriving from further away may have trouble parking around Parc de la Mar area — instead look for parking garages at the Marina or in the Sant Nicolau district and allow 20-30 minutes of walking.
\n\nAccessibility and residents
\nResidents with valid permits should apply for exemptions; information is available from the city administration. People with reduced mobility: plan your arrival in advance, because replacement stops may be further away than usual.
\n\nWhat else you should know
\nExpect large crowds: sound checks in the afternoon can be loud, and the Old Town fills up quickly. Bring water, especially if it's warm — and no, the parking meter does not care about festivals. Quick tip: if you come by bike, secure it well; at the usual bike racks it can get tight.
\n\nIn short: Saturday from 12:00, street in front of the Cathedral closed, EMT Line 25 diverted, Parc de la Mar stop canceled. City and police recommend not using a car and instead taking the bus, taxi, or walking. Plan for a bit more time — and enjoy the festival if you still come.
