In the evening, a pedestrian on the highway toward the airport was struck by a car and died at the scene. The Guardia Civil is investigating.
Death on the Road: Accident on the Airport Highway
Last night around 9:15 p.m., a tragic incident occurred on the highway toward the airport near Palma. A man, apparently walking, was struck by a car and died at the scene. Emergency services and police were quickly on the scene, but could do nothing more for him.
What Happened at the Scene
Several witnesses reported a brief traffic jam, sirens in the distance, and the unusual scene: someone walking in the left lane. The roadway was closed for the accident investigation, and traffic backed up toward the airport. Long queues formed; those traveling at the same time noticed it immediately in the slow line and the headlights flashing.
The Guardia Civil has taken over the investigations. It remains unclear why the man came onto the highway. Initial information indicates he was about 45 years old; police have not yet released more details â relatives will be informed.
Rescue and Scene Investigation
Ambulances, an emergency medical team, and the highway police worked together. Forensic investigators documented the scene carefully, photos were taken, and traces secured. Motorists were asked to use detour routes; the roadway remained restricted for about an hour.
Such accidents raise questions: Was the man disoriented, under the influence of alcohol or medications, or was there a medical emergency? The Guardia Civil is examining all possibilities.
Reactions from the Neighborhood
One resident from a nearby industrial area said he had seen the headlights and came quickly. He noted that you do not expect someone to be walking in the middle of the highway. Others spoke of a cool, slightly damp evening â the roads were not slick, but visibility was reduced by the twilight.
Note: If you were in the area of the airport highway last night and made observations, please contact the Guardia Civil. Every small detail can be important for clarification.
What Remains
A person has died, and many questions remain. Such news affects the island community because the highway is a daily route for commuters and vacationers. Our thoughts are with the bereaved, to whom we wish time and space to process this event.
