RCD Mallorca launches Business Club: Football as a driver for the island's economy

The club aims to bring together companies with a new Business Club — regular meetings, guests like Toni Nadal, and a clear goal: strengthening Mallorca economically.

More than just football: The club opens a new chapter

Last night at the Son Moix stadium it didn’t feel like a mere match day. The floodlights were on, people in suits stood at the coffee stand next to neighbors in jerseys, and in the middle the new Business Club of RCD Mallorca was introduced. It was about networks, opportunities for local firms, and how a sports club can spur the island’s economy.

What stood out immediately: the whole thing is deliberately down-to-earth. No elitist rounds, but an offer for small businesses as well as larger companies. According to the organizers, the meetings will in the future take place every last Thursday of the month — a relaxed time for after-work conversations, I thought, and yes: many people came straight from offices or construction sites.

Prominent guest and clear themes

Among those present was Toni Nadal, Rafael Nadal’s uncle, who spoke a few words. That naturally draws attention, but the agenda was just as important: innovation, sustainability, management. Not just buzzwords — concrete formats are planned: keynote talks, panel discussions, short pitch rounds, and practical examples from island renovators and startups.

Particularly exciting for many restaurateurs and tourism companies: collaborations with the club could attract new guests and at the same time strengthen local supply chains. I spoke with a cafe owner who hopes to supply catering for club events in the future. Such everyday perspectives were heard often in conversations.

What members can expect

The program should offer practical benefits: networking evenings at the stadium, expert talks, workshops on digitization and sustainability, and opportunities to present themselves at home games. There was also talk of membership models: different levels that could range from simple industry meetings to exclusive business lounges.

At the end of the evening the mood was open and curious. Real sees itself not only as a sports club but as an economic actor aiming to connect local companies. Whether this truly opens doors and helps new projects get off the ground will become clear in the coming months. I’ll stay tuned — and who knows, perhaps we’ll meet again at the next “last Thursday” at the stadium over a glass of water and a good idea.

Details: Regular meetings: last Thursday of the month; Location: Son Moix; Topics: innovation, sustainability, management; Kickoff event with guests from business and sport.
