Refreshing Autumn Start in Alcúdia: Clouds, Wind and a Touch of Rain
A cooler start in Alcúdia: dense clouds, a moderate northeast wind and a light drizzle — the beach is quieter, the cafés fuller. Tips for the day.
Autumn begins in Alcúdia: bring an umbrella, keep the sea view
Those who walked along the Passeig de la Victòria this morning first heard the seagulls cawing slightly different than usual and felt the change on their skin: no shimmering summer anymore, but a fresh breeze and deep, grey clouds over the harbour. Around 08:30 a.m. a light drizzle set in — just enough to make the cobblestones shine and to surprise the tourists who still had shoes on their feet, a scene also captured in Refreshing Autumn Start in Alcúdia: Clouds, Wind and a Touch of Rain.
Temperatures and mood
The readings show a clear shift: the nightly lows were around 20.6 °C, and daytime highs reached just under 27 °C. That still sounds mild, but the high humidity makes it feel cooler; in the morning the thermometer showed about 21.8 °C, and in the afternoon it settled back around ~21 °C. You can tell from the conversations in the street cafés: guests draw a little closer to their cups, and iced coffees are being swapped for a hot cortado.
Wind, humidity and rain
Air pressure is noted at around 1015 hPa, and relative humidity remains high at roughly 81 %. There is a steady northeast wind of about 8 m/s — hardly stronger in the gusts. The closed cloud cover lingers over Port d'Alcúdia and the promenade, increasing the likelihood of further drizzle and short showers, as reported in Alcúdia on September 1: A mild, rainy start to autumn. For beachgoers this means: Playa de Alcúdia is noticeably emptier than usual, sunbeds stand unused, and the beach bars prefer to serve tea rather than iced coffee.
Curiously, a few people still went out: dog walkers running happily across damp sand, and two kitesurfers who made use of the stronger gusts in the afternoon. Otherwise, the soft sounds of rain on roofs dominate, the roll of a distant delivery van on wet cobblestones, and the occasional toll of a church bell from the old town.
How to still enjoy the day in Alcúdia
The weather invites a more relaxed pace. Indoor alternatives are recommended: a stroll along the old town walls, a visit to the small museum, or browsing the market under covered stalls — you can see local vendors and discover handmade ceramics without getting soaked (see Alcúdia: Gentle start to autumn with light drizzle and mild temperatures for a similar outlook). Small cafés in the harbour offer good shelter; with a hot drink you can watch the activity on the water while the wind pushes outside.
Practical tips: carry an umbrella today, a light jacket will be useful in the evening, and sturdy shoes are advisable on the slightly slippery cobblestones. If you're flexible, move planned activities to late morning or early evening — the clouds often break briefly before new showers arrive.
In short: a typical transition day in Mallorca — refreshing, a little inconvenient, but also an invitation to slow down. If you lift your gaze from the promenade you can see the mountains in the hinterland slightly muted, hear the wind in the pines, and perhaps for that very reason feel like extending your coffee break. And that's a nice thing, too.
