Director Sherry Hormann reports on filming 'Fall for Me' on Mallorca: unusual locations, exhausting stunts, and an international team.

A German erotic thriller, shot under Mallorcan sun

It's a bit as if someone had rediscovered the island as a film backdrop: Sherry Hormann brought a German screenplay to Mallorca with 'Fall for Me' in summer 2024 and used locations not immediately found on a postcard. Valldemossa here, winding streets in Palma there—and a club that plays a major role in the film was built in the historic chambers of the Palau de l'Almudaina. Admittedly: I was curious and visited some spots on site—the light there really adds something to the images.

An international crew, but Mallorcan hands

Hormann said that the team consisted mainly of professionals from the island and the mainland. The set language was English, because the director herself does not speak Spanish. Many technicians had just come back from a big production—and you could tell: efficient workflows, long days, focused breaks with coffee to fight fatigue. I found it fascinating that many filming locations were only reachable on foot or by muscle power; equipment was often carried for days until everything landed on the cliff.

Stunts, weather, and the capricious sea

What stayed with me most: scenes on steep cliffs and the open beach. Hormann admitted that acrophobia and real waves posed challenges for the team. Safety was top, yet some takes lasted forever because the sea has its own dramaturgy—a wave, and you start again. Then came the logistical details: heavy cameras on rugged terrain, permits for historic sites, consideration for residents. Not trivial, but apparently well handled.

Fall for Me started on Netflix in several countries very successfully. Hormann expressed pleasure that audiences seem curious about stories that tell female sexuality and relationships differently than usual. Criticism was mixed—as with many bold projects—but the audience response spoke clearly.

And one more personal note to finish: Hormann said she hardly knew Mallorca before the shoot. Now she plans to come back when a piece of fabric surfaces that can only work here. I can imagine the island still yielding such stories—if you treat them with respect and not merely as a backdrop.
