Still swimming in Mallorca? Water temperatures and moments of bliss in autumn 2025

Autumn is here, but the sea is surprisingly mild. If you enjoy a short cool-off, you can still find good spots — with a few tricks.

Autumn on the coast, but the sea remains friendly

The air has become noticeably cooler, jackets are once again within reach on the chair — nonetheless: swimming is still possible. Those who walk along the Passeig in the morning still meet the usual early swimmers. My neighbor Toni, for example, doesn't want to give up his daily round in December. Not a fan of warm showers, but a character.

What the measurements say

Current measurements show: The water has cooled down, but remains far from wintery. Off Andratx the measurements are at 24.1 °C, off Pollença around 22.3 °C. That's roughly on par with many unheated outdoor pools — so nothing to recoil from immediately if you want to jump in briefly.

Where it's still worth it

Those looking for a relaxed swimming day should cautiously head for the sheltered bays: Playa de Muro, the Bay of AlcĂșdia or the small calas in the southeast often offer warmer, calmer water. At exposed capes and in the north it can become windy and wavy — there the currents are more unpredictable.

Practical tips for late-summer jumpers

If you want to go into the water now: enter slowly, test your legs first. A thin shorty (wetsuit) provides warmth without destroying the feeling of swimming. Pay attention to lifeguards, read the notices on the beach and take a quick look at the AEMET forecast. On Tuesday and Wednesday, for example, even more pleasant days are forecast — around 27 °C in AlcĂșdia, about 26 °C in Palma — enough for a reasonably summery day.

And for everyone who prefers to sit on the beach: pack a thermos, a blanket and enjoy the lower sun angle. Beach days look different now, but they have charm — less crush, more space for the dog and for that one big sea-breathing moment.

In short: Yes, you can still swim — with a little caution and the right spot. Those who want absolute certainty should move their swimming plans to heated indoor pools or wait for the warmer days in spring.
