World Cleanup Day in Mallorca: Volunteers Gather in Cala Gamba

On Saturday, it's time to remove trash from the beach and promenade

Mallorca is cleaning up again. For World Cleanup Day, volunteers will gather this coming Saturday, September 20, at Cala Gamba in Palma, to clean the beach, dunes, and access paths. The event is organized by the local network FAN Mallorca; the start is at 9:30 AM at Club Náutico.

Who can join?

\n

Everyone is welcome — families, groups of friends, students, neighbors. Children should come accompanied by an adult. The organizers ask for weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear. Gloves, trash bags and litter pickers are usually provided; if you wish, you can also bring your own gloves.

Practical information on-site

\n

The Club Náutico is right by the water; getting there by bus or bike is straightforward, parking is often tight on Saturdays. Please bring enough water, don't forget sun protection — the Mediterranean September light is milder than in midsummer, but it can still get warm. The event usually lasts two to three hours, depending on the number of participants and finds.

\n\n

It's not just about cleaning up: on-site there are brief tips on proper waste separation and on reducing plastic waste in daily life. A few volunteers are happy to share items found from past years — from forgotten beach toys to surprisingly many cigarette filters.

Registering and taking part

Anyone who would like to participate can register online; this helps the organizers with material planning and team assignments. People who decide on short notice are usually also welcome without registration — simply arrive a bit earlier.

A little tip: Pack a bag for recyclable waste and a bag for residual waste. Often you can separate a lot if you invest a bit of time. And yes: It feels really good to leave the beach promenade cleaner than you found it.
