In Pere Garau, police arrested a man who allegedly attacked two teenagers with a knife in early April. The victims survived with serious injuries.

Arrest following knife attack in Pere Garau

The national police report an arrest following a severe knife attack that in early April drew attention in the Palma district Pere Garau. According to investigators, the incident occurred on April 13 around 7:15 a.m. at the Plaza de las Columnas, as two young men were waiting for a mutual friend.

How it unfolded according to the police

According to the report, a man approached the youths and asked them questions they apparently did not understand. When they ignored him, the situation escalated: first, the attacker is said to have drawn a glass bottle and attacked the young men. After they had brought him to the ground, the attacker briefly left the scene.

From the other side of the street he returned—this time with a knife. One of the youths was stabbed from behind, suffered cuts to the head and a stab wound in the neck area. The second helper was also injured, also in the neck. Despite heavy bleeding, both managed to flee and asked passers-by for help. An ambulance took them to the hospital; as of now they are alive.

Arrest after months of investigations

Investigations dragged on for several months. On Wednesday, officials finally arrested a 30-year-old man of Bolivian origin. He is now being investigated for multiple counts of attempted murder. The police reportedly secured the alleged weapon. The arrested person was presented to the competent authorities; investigations continue.

In Pere Garau, a district that is often characterized by markets and deliveries in the mornings, the news caused unease. Residents report increased patrols and conversations in small cafés: many are relieved that the suspect has been caught, but also ask for more prevention and presence in the district.

What remains open

What remains unclear includes the motive and whether there was a history between the perpetrator and the victims. The police will provide further details in the coming days. For the affected individuals and their families, the long road to recovery begins—and for the residents of Pere Garau, a debate on how such incidents can be prevented in the future.
