Last night around 8:15 PM, a serious traffic accident occurred on the MA-11, a few hundred meters before the tunnel toward Sóller. According to eyewitnesses, a car suddenly veered into the oncoming lane and collided head-on with another vehicle. The late-summer heat was still in the air, and suddenly flashing lights and ambulances stood in the middle of the main road.

Three people injured – this is the preliminary tally from the responders. Two of the affected individuals had to be taken to the hospital emergency department with visible injuries, another participant received treatment on the spot. The injured, according to the Guardia Civil, were vacationing in a family car. A more precise diagnosis was not released initially.

Firefighters and several ambulances were quickly on the scene. A paramedic who happened to encounter me in the town shortly after the incident described the situation as "chaotic, but organized": debris on the roadway, distressed passengers, and cars waiting that stretched for kilometers.

The MA-11 was blocked in both directions for an extended period. Long queues formed along the route; commuters and vacationers reported delays of more than an hour. A taxi driver from Deià said he only had clear road again at the outskirts of Sóller — and even then very slowly.

The police did not provide a final statement on the cause of the accident. There are no indications of alcohol or drug use, nor a final result on speed. The Guardia Civil has initiated investigations and is currently collecting evidence and taking statements from witnesses.

Such accidents remind us that the MA-11 can be particularly treacherous in the evening hours: narrow road, tight curves, and the combination of locals and haste. Several residents, in conversations with reporters, urged more speed checks and visibility improvements at sensitive sections.

For those affected, the main question now is recovery. Two people are in hospital; there were no official updates on their condition in the morning. Anyone who saw what happened is asked to contact the Guardia Civil to help with the investigation.
