In Magaluf a woman called 112 after finding someone in her apartment. The Guardia Civil eventually found the suspected intruder inside a fabric wardrobe — a knife lay beside him. A judge ordered him to be held in custody.
Police find man in wardrobe – knife lying beside him
On Friday morning, at around 11:40 a.m., patrols of the Guardia Civil arrived at a residential complex in Magaluf after a woman had called the emergency number 112. She had just come home from work and immediately sensed that something was wrong in her apartment. According to her, she knew who the intruder might be: her ex-partner.
The officers searched the flat systematically — sofa, corners, cupboards. At first without result. The sun was low, a light breeze carried the smell of sea and oil from the promenade; neighbours peeked out from corridors, some phoned frantically. Shortly after the officers had returned to the entrance, the woman cried out excitedly: 'I think he's inside. He's in the wardrobe.'
Surprising discovery
The Guardia officers went back in and opened a lightweight fabric clothes wardrobe. Something moved inside. They called the suspect's name — and he came out. A knife lay beside him. The man, a Spanish national, was arrested immediately.
In court the accused did not deny hiding, but stated that the knife had already been there before he crawled into the wardrobe. Whether this statement can be verified by investigators is part of the ongoing inquiries. At least provisionally, the presiding judge decided that the man should be held in pre-trial detention.
Neighbourhood in uproar
The incident remained a topic of conversation among the residents of the building for a long time. Some later reported that there had been frequent disputes in the neighbourhood, others were surprised because it is usually a quiet block of flats. The Guardia Civil secured traces, took statements and handed the case over to the judiciary.
Such operations are not everyday occurrences here, but they do happen: relationships that escalate and people who do not comply with court orders. For the affected woman, it will now be reviewed which protective measures apply and whether further steps are necessary.
What now?
The incident is being treated as a possible breach of a restraining order and as possession of a dangerous weapon. Investigations continue; the police and courts are now making decisions. Those who ask around the streets of Magaluf receive mixed reactions — from sympathy to a quiet shake of the head.
If you saw anything or can provide information, the Guardia Civil asks you to come forward. For anyone affected: do not hesitate to call the emergency number 112 if you feel threatened. Sometimes one call is enough to turn an unsafe situation into a safe one.
