October calm in Palma: mild breeze, terrace weather and time to catch your breath
A quiet October day in Palma: mild temperatures, a friendly northwest breeze and good prospects for terraces, walks and late photography on the Passeig des Born.
A relaxed Tuesday in Palma – no weather drama, but plenty of room to enjoy
Palma breathes calmly today. On 6 October there is no storm or prolonged rain over the city, but weather that invites slowness: cafés where coffee cups are not yet clattering, and streets you can stroll along without hurry. If you walk the Passeig des Born at 08:00, you feel a fresh northwest breeze that brings just enough freshness to make you glad of a light sweater – and no rush to take it off again. More on mild autumn mornings is in Autumn Sun in Palma: A Mild October 8 to Breathe Easy.
Temperatures: pleasant and everyday-friendly
The numbers are simple and reassuring: around 17 °C in the morning, up to 22 °C at midday and around 18 °C in the evening. Not high summer, but not an early winter either – the classic Mallorcan autumn weather that makes people smile here. For a similar October day see Cozy October Day in Palma: Clouds, Southwest Wind and a Hint of Sunset Red. For market strolls, a terrace lunch or a walk by the sea the combination fits: sunny periods, a few loose clouds and enough warmth to stay outside.
Air, wind and a little square check
The air pressure is stable at around 1025 hPa, humidity is moderate at about 55–60%. The wind freshens moderately from the northwest at about 4 m/s, with the occasional gust — just enough to make the pigeons on the Plaça de Cort startle briefly, but not strong enough to send parasols flying. Cloud cover takes up roughly a third of the sky; rain? Practically zero percent. So an umbrella will mostly be unnecessary.
What the day brings – tips for hours outside
At the coast expect gentle swell; more than romantic surf is not to be expected. For a terrace dinner we recommend a thin jacket: from about 21:00 the air becomes noticeably cooler. For photographers the time windows between 17:30 and 19:00 are particularly appealing – warm light, soft clouds and beautiful shadow play on the old façades of Santa Catalina and La Lonja.
A local tip: the bakery on the corner of Carrer de Sant Miquel opens early and tempts with still-warm ensaimadas. Such a start is great for beginning the day without rush. The small fish stalls at the Mercado del Olivar also remain well attended today – fresh goods and relaxed queues, as rarely seen in high summer.
Why this weather is good for Mallorca
Such mild October days are a gift for the island: they extend the outdoor season without the return of summer crowds. Restaurants and cafés can work calmly, hiking trails remain passable, and beaches fill more with walkers than with sunbed savers. For locals this means less noise, for hosts more time to attend to guests. In short: a win-win for everyday life and tourism.
The calm has another advantage: the city lets its details become visible again. You hear voices from the small bars, the clatter of plates on terraces and the rattling of delivery vans on cobblestones – sounds that easily disappear in high season. Today they come to the fore again and tell of a Palma one likes to imagine as a slow sonata.
Stay dry, take time for a walk at the harbor and glance out at the sea from time to time. It is quiet days like this that make Mallorca so lovable in autumn.
