Jackets Back On: Rain and Cool Air Move Across Mallorca

After a string of mild days, an Atlantic low will bring noticeably cooler air and intermittent rain to the island this weekend. What you should know for the weekend.

Rain Showers and Temperature Drop This Weekend

The sun takes a short break on Mallorca: On Sunday a rain system will move across the island, bringing fresh air and wet roads. The national weather service Aemet expects the chance of rain to rise significantly already in the early morning hours.

When it becomes uncomfortable

The models indicate that from around 6 a.m. the chance of rain climbs to about 85%. On Sunday afternoon, locally even 100% is possible — so better not forget your umbrella when you're out and about (Portixol, La Llotja, Passeig Marítim, you know the drill).

Temperature: A short, noticeable drop

With the rain it will also become noticeably cooler. After several days with highs up to 27°C, the top temperatures fall to around 24°C. In the night into Monday, measuring stations expect values around 14–16°C. On paper not dramatic, but on the skin you can feel it—especially by the sea when the northeast wind picks up.

Monday remains largely dry, but feels autumnal: not much more than 22°C is to be expected. The good news for the die-hard: by midweek a return of warmer temperatures is already hinted, although further showers are not ruled out — according to Aemet a new band of rain could move across the island again on Wednesday.

Where it was warm most recently

On Friday the warmest parts of the island were in the east and center: Artà recorded just under 26°C, closely followed by places such as Llucmajor, Campos, or the lighthouse at Cala Rajada. Quick reminder: local peak values can change quickly depending on whether wind comes from sea or land.

Anyone planning to be outdoors this weekend — a walk in Palma, a cappuccino at a historic café, or a trip to the Cala — should bring a light jacket and a rain option. For those used to changeable October weather: same as always. For the rest: a quick jacket upgrade is worthwhile.

I’ll check the latest readings at the harbor again tomorrow morning. If anything changes, I’ll let you know — promised, without unnecessary panic, but with practical advice (umbrella? Yes. Sailboat? Only if you have experience with northeast wind).
