Head-on collision on the road to Andratx

\n

This morning around 06:45 a.m., on the road toward Andratx (MA-1) near Paguera, a serious head-on collision occurred. Two vehicles collided so violently that emergency crews remained at the scene for hours to recover and block the road. Three young people were in one of the vehicles, the other was driven by a woman. All four occupants were injured and taken to hospitals.

Firefighters, the Guardia Civil, police and emergency medical services worked together at the scene. Several firefighters had to pry open jammed doors, clear debris from the roadway and contain spilled fluids. The road toward Andratx was temporarily closed; long traffic jams formed, residents reported honking cars and an unusually long backlog.

\n

Witnesses described the scene as 'shockingly quiet' — a cool, foggy morning, the smell of brake fluid in the air, and bent traffic delimiting posts. A resident who walked his dog early said he heard a loud bang and ran to help.

Initial indications: alcohol involved?

\n

The Guardia Civil said that early indications suggest that one of the vehicles may have crossed into oncoming traffic. Alcohol tests were carried out at the scene; according to preliminary information, one driver tested positive. The Traffic Inspectorate is now clarifying the exact circumstances. Accident reconstruction teams are expected to secure traces and determine the sequence of events in the coming hours.

The injured were treated by emergency medical staff and transported to hospitals. There is no final official statement yet on the severity of the injuries. Some patients are said to have been admitted to hospital.

Separate incident between the Mallorca Fashion Outlet and Bunyola

\n

In another, apparently independent night- and morning-report, a 17-year-old pedestrian on the road between the Mallorca Fashion Outlet and Bunyola was seriously injured. According to witnesses, the teenager was struck by a side-view mirror of a delivery van. He suffered severe head injuries and was taken to hospital in critical condition.

The Guardia Civil is also investigating here. Police urgently request information from road users who passed the stretch yesterday evening or this morning. Dashcam footage or observations that could help clarify the exact sequence of events are especially sought.

Reactions from the community

\n

In Paguera, concern is growing: residents are calling for better lighting and stricter controls on the MA-1, especially in the early morning hours and on weekends. Several residents spoke of high speeds and blind spots at the accident site. If weather permits, the route is popular with commuters and weekend drivers — which increases the risk, residents say.

\n

The authorities urge all road users to stay calm, look out for one another, and inform the police if they have observations. Anyone who witnessed anything can contact the Guardia Civil. Investigations are ongoing, and it will take several days before authorities publish a final report.

A gloomy morning, two serious incidents. In such moments you realize how quickly everyday life and emergencies sit side by side.
