Three serious accidents in one night: Injuries on Mallorca
In one night, three serious accidents on Mallorca were reported: in Pollença, Palma, and Andratx several people were injured and taken to hospitals.
Three serious accidents in one night on Mallorca's roads
The night of August 17 ended anything but quiet for several people on Mallorca. In three separate incidents — in Pollença, Palma and Andratx — there were serious injuries. Some of the victims are currently in the emergency department of Son Espases Hospital.
Pollença: Cyclist collides with bus
Around 11:40 p.m., a serious collision occurred in Pollença. A 54-year-old cyclist reportedly collided with a city bus at the intersection of Carrer del Port. Eyewitnesses report a loud bang, people rushing to help with flashlights, and a driver in shock.
The cyclist sustained serious injuries and was treated at the scene. The Guardia Civil took over the accident investigation; the ambulance transported the man to Son Espases Hospital. His condition is described as serious but stable — relatives have been informed.
Palma: Motorcyclist seriously injured
In Palma, a motorcyclist crashed in the early morning hours. According to a passerby, the rider lost control on a wet road and slid into the curb. He sustained serious leg injuries and was extracted by an ambulance. The Local Police also responded, temporarily closing the road. The rider was admitted to Son Espases Hospital as well. Coverage of related concerns appears in Third traffic death in a few days: Do Palma's night streets need to be safer?.
Andratx: Head-on crash, both drivers trapped
The most serious incident occurred in Andratx, near the Ma-1 exit toward Port d’Andratx, where two vehicles collided head-on. Firefighters had to cut the two drivers from their cars. The images from the emergency crews looked severe: airbags deployed, debris on the road, an agitated dog later calmed by the police.
The injured were also taken to Son Espases; no information about age or gender was released at first. Guardia Civil investigators are now examining whether excessive speed or inattention caused the crash. Earlier reporting on a separate Palma collision and its aftermath can be found in Nighttime Escape on the Camí dels Reis: An Accident, Many Questions.
What is important now
On the island’s roads, special caution is advised at all times — especially at night. The combination of fatigue, narrow coastal roads and sometimes wet asphalt makes driving risky. Authorities urge to keep distance, to adjust speed, and to help at accidents, but also not to hinder emergency services. The broader concerns about rural routes are discussed in Three serious accidents in one night: What's wrong with Mallorca's country roads?.
Our thoughts are with the injured and their families. If you witnessed something, please contact the nearest police station or the Guardia Civil at 062. Further information will follow as authorities release new details.
