Threat in Son Gotleu: Youth Group Robs Phone and Threatens with Knives
In Son Gotleu a teenager was attacked and had his smartphone stolen. Two suspects are in custody and the investigation is ongoing.
Fear after assault in Son Gotleu
Late on Thursday afternoon, around 5:30 p.m., a teenager in Palma's Son Gotleu district found himself in a dangerous situation: a group of adolescents surrounded him, beat him and snatched his mobile phone. The victim alerted the police, who soon arrived with several patrol cars, as later described in a report on a large police operation in Son Gotleu.
Witness tip led to initial arrests
On site, officers encountered a larger crowd. A resident and other passersby provided the decisive tip: two of the alleged participants fled into a shop, and another hid in a nearby bar. Police eventually found the young man, "crouched behind a table," and arrested him. The next day, a second suspect was arrested during a routine check by a patrol.
The investigation continues. Authorities believe that more people may have been involved in the assault. Whether this was a targeted attack against the victim or a spontaneous incident is now being clarified. Officials do not rule out further arrests.
What residents say
There are many concerned voices in the neighborhood: "There have been more scuffles on this street in recent months," says a woman who runs a shop on the corner. Another neighbor adds that youths often gather in small groups, especially in the early evening when the streets get darker. Some parents now have their children come home earlier.
Particularly disturbing, according to the victim, was the threat that was reportedly made: "Next time we'll come with knives." Such words heighten tensions in a neighborhood already sensitive to youth violence, as noted in a news report titled "Amenaza en Son Gotleu: grupo juvenil roba un móvil y amenaza con cuchillos".
Practical advice
The police continue to ask for information: anyone who saw anything suspicious should call the emergency number 091. For residents, as always: stay alert, don't carry your phone openly, and keep your distance if in doubt. Small precautions can help prevent escalation.
Authorities and neighborhood groups in Son Gotleu are now watching the situation closely. Many hope the investigation will bring clarity and help prevent further incidents.
