Two perspectives on light met one evening at the Pink Panthers Collectors Club in Puerto Portals: the quiet, reflective photography of Adrian Bedoy and the bold Warhol prints. A stroll along the marina now pays double dividends.
Evening Light: Bedoy Meets Warhol at the Pink Panthers Collectors Club
A mild April evening, the lights of the yachts blinking softly in the basin of Puerto Portals, and somewhere a glass clinks on a restaurant terrace. That is exactly how the two-day opening of the exhibition at the small but refined Pink Panthers Collectors Club began – not with a big fuss, but with an atmosphere that invites you to look. This understated mood recalls Lights, Runway, Sea: Pink Panther Evening at the Lobster Club in Puerto Portals.
Two Views of the Same Phenomenon
The show brings together two very different approaches to a central theme: light. On one side are reproductions and prints related to Andy Warhol, which present light as a bold, almost iconic element. On the other, Adrian Bedoy shows his works: photographic and pictorial studies that work with transparency, layers and reflections, turning the ordinary into something mysterious.
The combination works surprisingly well. In the club's small rooms no competition arises; instead a conversation takes place. Warhol's clear, graphic surfaces open up the view onto Bedoy's fine nuances, and conversely Bedoy's subtle layers appear more intense next to Warhol's strong prints. Visitors stop, move closer to the surfaces, point out delicate details – a real mutual discovery.
I noticed how many guests combined the evening with a walk along the marina, as with an Evening Stroll Through Palma's Art Night: Nit de l'Art Open Until 11 PM. From the Passeig it's only a few steps to the club: people came in light jackets, some with cameras, others carrying bottles of wine, and everyone brought the typical harbour pace with them – relaxed but attentive.
Bedoy: Everyday Life as a Starting Point
Bedoy's gaze turns to the familiar: fences, glass facades, reflections on water surfaces. He approaches such motifs not sentimentally but with a sharp, almost investigative eye. The works resemble tinted panes: you can look through them and are at the same time thrown back into the space. That has something conciliatory, I think – art that does not overwhelm but enriches everyday life.
The evening was also a small island community event: collectors, people from the cultural and hotel sectors, holidaymakers who happened to pass by, and neighbours from Portals Nous. Conversations were less about names and more about perspectives — which moment hangs in the picture, which memory a light reflection evokes.
Why This Is Good for Mallorca
Exhibitions like this are more than a cultural treat for the island. They show that art here does not take place behind closed doors but right in the middle of everyday life: in a marina, between restaurants and shipyards. For Mallorca this means concretely: culture attracts visitors without turning the island into an art mile. It is precisely these small, well-placed projects that keep the island's cultural face diverse and foster local encounters.
Timing is practical too: the exhibition runs into the summer. The best tip for a visit is the early evening – first a walk along the marina, then a stop in the club's rooms. If you like, end the evening in one of the nearby restaurants and linger a little longer over thoughts of light.
In closing a personal observation: I like it when a vernissage doesn't have to be loud to leave a mark. The soft clink, the voices, the sound of the waves – all of that makes the visit a small, genuine experience. It stands in contrast to the louder gatherings described in Red Carpet, Pool Lights and Laughter: A Night in Ses Palmeres. Bedoy and the works hanging beside Warhol invite exactly that: look, feel, and then walk on with a different view.
Practical information: Location: Pink Panthers Collectors Club, Puerto Portals. Duration: until the summer. Tip: colors are particularly beautiful in the early evening.
