Sunset over the Mallorcan coastline with cliffs, pine trees and the sea

Where to Find Mallorca's Most Beautiful Sunsets — My Favorite Spots

From windy cliffs to quiet coves: my personal favorite spots for the perfect sunset in Mallorca — with tips on how to get there and what to pack.

Why Sunsets in Mallorca Are So Captivating

In the evenings on the island the air turns warm, the pines give off their scent and somewhere in the distance a cicada chirps. A sunset here isn't a quickly snapped postcard — it's a small, intimate event; see a recent colorful sunset over Mallorca. I've been heading out regularly for years, sometimes alone, often with friends. Each spot has its own mood: sometimes dramatic, sometimes cozy, always a little bit Mediterranean-chaotic.

Cap de Formentor (Pollença)

A classic for many visitors — and with good reason. The road to the Cap de Formentor lighthouse winds, the light breaks over the sea and the air cools quickly. Tip: set off early, parking is scarce and the local authorities control traffic. Bus 353 is a relaxed alternative. Bring a jacket; in the evening the Tramuntana often whistles through your hair.

Sa Foradada (Valldemossa)

Only a short walk from the country road, but suddenly everything is different: the sea sparkles through the hole in the rock. Many people park along the narrow road, so please be considerate when leaving your car. Sit behind the old dry-stone walls, spread a blanket and just listen to the water. Very quiet, very Mallorcan. The Sa Foradada viewpoint is famous for that natural hole in the rock and its coastal views.

Torrent de Pareis / Sa Calobra (Escorca)

The approach is an adventure, the descent is worth it. In the Torrent de Pareis gorge the light becomes almost magical, especially when the waves play in small breakers. Pure nature, no big restaurants, often only the slap of the sea and the echo of the cliffs. Turn off your phone, take a deep breath.

Sant Elm and Illes Malgrats (Andratx / Calvià)

Families with picnic blankets, old neighbors meeting up, and the islands on the horizon — a calm, almost village-like sunset. If you like, take a walk on the beach beforehand or stop in a small bar. The Malgrats Islands are a protected area; respectful behaviour is part of the charm.

El Toro (Calvià)

A somewhat rougher spot with paths of memory: bunkers, rocks, clear air. The climb is short but rewarding. Up top you're rewarded with a wide view to the west. Ideal if you want some movement and prefer standing alone in the evening while the sun slowly sinks behind the sea.

Insider tip: Small coves and lucky finds

Sometimes the best hours are those you find by chance: a narrow coastal road, an unremarkable parking spot, a flight of steps down to a hidden cove. In the low season you are more likely to have such discoveries to yourself. Do you hear the seagulls? That's often where it is especially beautiful.

Practical tips for the outing

Best time: depending on the season, roughly between 19:00 and 21:00 — later in summer, earlier in winter. Pack: blanket, water, light jacket, insect repellent and a small light for the way back. And please: take everything you brought with you back home.

Arriving early is worth it: many viewpoints fill up quickly, especially on weekends. Respect for residents and nature makes the experience nicer for everyone. A little consideration, a few friendly words and the evening will remain a fond memory.

Whether alone with a bottle of water or with friends and a small picnic — a Mallorcan sunset is always an invitation to slow down. Try my favourite sunset spots in Mallorca, listen to the island's sounds and allow yourself the moment. Sometimes the most beautiful light is exactly where you weren't looking for it.
