The Guardia Civil has arrested a 43-year-old man, suspected of around 20 nightly burglaries on Mallorca. In an apartment in Son Gotleu, cash was seized.
Arrest following a series of burglaries
In Marratxí, the Guardia Civil has taken a 43-year-old man into custody who, according to investigators, is responsible for around 20 nightly burglaries on Mallorca. The crimes are said to have occurred since the end of August across several locations – including Sóller, Valldemossa, Marratxí and Palma.
How investigators are proceeding
After searches of an apartment in the neighborhood Son Gotleu, the officers reportedly found large amounts of cash that presumably stem from the crimes. During the operations, small blue flashing lights and two police vehicles were seen shortly after 02:30 a.m. — no one on the street seemed to forget the calm of that morning.
The Guardia Civil says the arrested man acted alone and has prior convictions. Whether the motive was solely financial or whether there are other underlying reasons remains part of the ongoing investigations.
Affected bar owners and neighbors react
In the affected towns, some bar owners are visibly relieved. “We were afraid it would happen again,” says a bar operator in Palma who does not wish to be named. Other residents reacted more cautiously: the fear runs deep, but for many it is clear that investigators need to analyze further clues.
Several venue operators report nightly damage to window frames and triggered alarms, but also that nothing of great historical value was stolen – mainly cash and small items. This fits the picture investigators have formed from initial statements.
Investigations continue
The Guardia Civil has announced that it will expand crime-scene investigations and check for possible links to other, similarly related cases. In the coming days, further interrogations are planned. In the house search, authorities also searched records and storage locations that could provide clues about crime scenes and procedures.
Anyone who has observed something unusual in recent weeks is asked to contact the Guardia Civil. It is remarkable how many small details – a delivery run at three a.m., an unknown person with a backpack – suddenly become important.
What remains
For many, relief is in the air: a suspected perpetrator is in custody, at least for now there is calm in the affected streets. At the same time, the case reminds us how vulnerable small businesses are in the early morning hours. Legal proceedings are not yet complete – court dates and further details on possible charges will follow.
If you have any information about the case: contact the Guardia Civil. And if you work in a bar or restaurant, please double-check your alarms and secure storage locations. A little caution never hurts.
