Mallorca Switches to Summer Mode: Calm After the Weather Drama
After a few days of storms the island breathes a sigh of relief: sun, warm air and the familiar afternoon siesta pace return. A practical tip against the midday heat and a look at what the coming days will bring.
Mallorca shakes off the wet days and slips back into summer mode
The island has staged short showers, great relief in recent days: storms, lightning over the bay and streets gleaming in the rain. Now there's hardly any sign of that. Instead, the familiar returns – sun, warm air and that mild island lethargy when midday rolls in and the streets quiet down. At Playa de Palma people are still sitting with their first café con leche, in the afternoon they retreat into the shade, and in the evening the plaza fills again with voices and clinking glasses.
Temperatures approach the 30-degree mark
For the coming days forecasts around Palma and along the coast predict values around 30 to 31 degrees. Inland locations such as Inca or Llucmajor see similar temperatures. Nights remain mild – around 20–22 degrees – enough to leave the window open and hear the fan at work once more. Those who walked along the Passeig Marítimo early this morning could see the boat people at the market: sun-browned legs, voices smoky from the sea air, fish crates that smell of the sea.
Midday heat: no treat for walkers
A small but important piece of advice you often hear here: avoid the sun between 1:00 and 4:00 pm. The radiation is strong, and what feels like a short walk can quickly become exhausting. AEMET warns about sun protection and enough drinking breaks – and not without reason. So if you're thinking about climbing Puig Major at 2:00 pm, reconsider. Far more pleasant: a siesta, a good book in the shade, or a cool jump into the sea.
Evenings are the real reward
When the heat slowly eases, the island awakens in its familiar way: the sea breeze brings salty air, beach bars put out the chairs, and the first aperitivos are served around 7:00 pm. In Alcúdia, Sóller or Pollença the sky puffs up once more in the clearest blue, and the alleys fill with laughing voices. Calle San Miguel in Palma – a popular runway for people, music and clinking glasses – shows the usual scene again: a little chaotic, mostly friendly, always sunny.
If you're still looking for a shaded spot on the beach, get up early. The promenades fill quickly; the sunbed attendants are at their posts by 10:00 at the latest. At the markets it smells of freshly grilled fish, the tomatoes are sun-yellow and the vendors exchange jokes with returning regulars.
Looking ahead: late summer in Mallorca
The models signal stability for the coming days: ideal weather for morning rides into the Tramuntana, early-morning bike tours and long, relaxed evenings on the terraces. Important reminders: sunscreen, enough water and a plan B for the hottest hours. And if you wander Palma's streets in the evening – expect music, a buzz of voices and the unmistakable Mallorca feeling.
In short: the storms are over, the island is Mallorca vuelve al modo verano: calma tras el teatro del tiempo, and life runs in the relaxing rhythm we love. A little slower, a little louder, and always with a hint of salty air in the nose.
