Motorcycle torn apart, rider severely injured – junction at Santa Eugenia becomes accident site
Today at midday, around 1:40 p.m., the junction of the MA-3020 and MA-3040 near Santa Eugenia briefly turned into a scene of chaos. A 54-year-old German motorcyclist collided there with a delivery van and was so badly injured in the impact that he was airlifted immediately to Son Espases University Hospital.
The bike — reportedly a Harley-Davidson according to witnesses — was literally torn apart in the collision. One piece remained on the roadway, another lay a few meters away. I was not far from the scene and saw the Guardia Civil cordon off the area while rescuers rushed with blankets and oxygen equipment. It did not look good.
Rescuers fought for his life
According to emergency services, the man apparently missed a stop sign. In the collision he suffered extremely serious head injuries. The emergency teams had to intubate him at the scene. He briefly regained consciousness but then his condition deteriorated rapidly. At Son Espases the polytrauma protocol was activated — a code red.
Particularly tragic: The rider was wearing an open-face helmet and lost almost all his teeth in the impact. Emergency doctors described the injuries as 'severe'. The 54-year-old is now in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
Van driver uninjured, investigation underway
The driver of the Citroën Jumper escaped with a shock and, according to police, was uninjured. The Guardia Civil has taken over forensic work and is questioning witnesses, securing brake and tire marks, and investigating whether visibility or distraction may have played a role.
Such an event shocks the small community here. On an ordinary Tuesday midday, with bus schedules and shift changes, it suddenly becomes clear how quickly a day can turn. We will keep you updated as soon as new information is available.
The investigations by the Guardia Civil are ongoing. The police on site are collecting information.
