Light rain, shiny streets and pleasant late-summer temperatures: a thin umbrella and a café with a roof terrace are Palma's best companions today.

Gentle Drizzle and Warm Air: Palma on 8 September 2025

If you walk along the Passeig Mallorca early this morning, the first thing you notice is the smell of wet asphalt, freshly brewed coffee and a hint of the sea. Not heavy rain, more like that fine drizzle that makes the streets shine and slows the city down for a while. A compact umbrella and a light jacket are usually enough.

Temperatures and How It Feels

The numbers sound like a late-summer compromise: a forecasted minimum of 24.07ºC and a maximum up to 30.77ºC. For the course of the day, models expect around 25.09ºC in the morning, about 30.29ºC at the warmest hour, 28.67ºC in the afternoon and just under 25.01ºC at night.

But as we Mallorcans know, how it feels matters more than the raw numbers. The perceived values are slightly higher: around 25.51ºC in the morning, up to 31.66ºC during the day, about 30.63ºC in the afternoon and around 25.76ºC at night. Anyone jogging at Playa de Palma feels the humidity in the air more clearly than the figures suggest.

Air Pressure, Humidity and Wind

Air pressure remains stable at about 1014 hPa. Humidity is around 51 % — enough to make the warm air feel a bit heavier, but not so oppressive that you immediately look for shade. A light breeze is blowing from the east at about 5.4 m/s (direction 82º), with gusts up to 5.69 m/s. Enough to make beach towels flutter, but not to plan sailing adventures.

Clouds, Chance of Rain and Places with Shelter

The sky is quite overcast today — roughly 82% cloud cover is possible. The chance of rain is about 45%, with showers occurring locally and often in the first half of the day. Neighborhoods like La Llotja or the Paseo Marítimo may experience short, heavy downpours, while in other spots the sun breaks through.

So my tip: look for cafés with covered terraces — the corner of Plaça Major / Carrer de Sant Miquel has ideal spots today to watch the bustle of the city without getting wet. Or plan museum visits and galleries as flexible alternatives to long days at the beach.

What the Day Means for Everyday Life

This weather is no reason to stay at home. It is rather an invitation to improvise: a short morning walk at the harbor, where joggers and dog owners are already out by around 8:15 and the promenade still steams from the rain; then a café with pastry — that's Mallorcan late summer in compact form.

For trips to the sea: pack a thin raincoat and a collapsible umbrella. Don't forget sunscreen — the sun keeps breaking through. For boat trips: the breeze from the east is moderate, but local showers can occur briefly. If you want to be on the safe side, postpone open tours to the later afternoon hours.

A Small, Positive Outlook

As much as the drizzle briefly makes the streets feel melancholic, it also cleanses — the scent of rain on hot stones is typical and somehow calming. After the showers, clear, clean air and short sunny windows often follow, making the city glow in that special afterglow. For residents and visitors that means: plan flexibly, enjoy the typical atmosphere and don't let the weather ruin your mood.

In short: not a day for big, weather-uncertain plans, but ideal for cozy café breaks, short harbor rounds and spontaneous museum visits. Stay dry, but keep an eye on your boots for possible puddles — Mallorca is showing itself today in a slightly sniffy but very lovable mood.
