New Paseo Marítimo: Palma celebrates opening with solidarity run for Projecte Home
The newly renovated Paseo Marítimo in Palma will be reopened on November 16 with a solidarity run for Projecte Home. Running routes, children's races, yoga and Zumba invite locals and visitors to discover the new promenade.
A new Paseo Marítimo, a Sunday for the city and a good cause
After months of construction fences, excavators and the occasional clatter of scaffolding, the waterfront path in Palma is open again to pedestrians, joggers and evening strollers – at least officially: The city invites everyone on November 16 to the ceremonial reopening, which will be linked to a solidarity run in favor of Projecte Home. It is a day that reclaims the promenade and at the same time supports a social initiative.
What the weekend looks like
The start is at 10:00 a.m. at Moll Vell. The main route measures around ten kilometers and runs along the harbor, past marinas, boat moorings and the old city walls – a strip of asphalt with views of shimmering masts and the constant cry of seagulls. Those who prefer a more relaxed pace can run shorter distances or take part in one of the children's races. For families and strollers there is also a joint walk so everyone can arrive at their own pace.
Activities beforehand
Already the weekend before and on the day of the event the city offers free classes: yoga in the cool morning air, Zumba in the afternoon – the music then mixes with the clinking of ropes. Last night, as I walked along the harbor, a few women were practicing dance steps on the promenade; the open spaces attract people who seek exercise, fresh air and the view. Not a big spectacle, rather an honest coming-together after almost three years of construction.
Join, register, arrive
Participation is open to all who wish to run. Registrations are made on the event page; the official final day for registrations is the evening of November 14. The organizers ask for prior registration so that bib numbers and timing can run smoothly. Entry fees and donations will be partly passed on to Projecte Home – a local organization that supports and integrates people with addiction problems.
If you come from Palma or are visiting: pack a light jacket for the morning hours; the November sea wind bites. Also expect somewhat more traffic around the harbor that Sunday. Being early pays off not only for a good parking spot but also for the light: when the sun glances across the ship masts, it creates that special harbor atmosphere many of us have missed.
Why this is important for Palma
The Paseo Marítimo is more than just a strip of asphalt along the water. It is the backbone of daily routines – from the morning dog walk to the after-work run – and opens spaces for encounters. The combination of public space and charitable engagement is a nice sign: the city makes room, people fill it with life, and a social institution benefits. A small, practical example of how urban space and community spirit can work together.
Tip: Even if you don't want to run, you should still come early. A coffee at Moll Vell, the clapping of ropes, a few stretches and the view of the glowing sails – it's worth it even without a bib number.
