Sun surge on Mallorca: Beaches come alive again
After a long, windy spring, AEMET brings sun and warmth: up to almost 30 °C, milder nights and sea temperatures above 20 °C – time for early beach visits and open street cafés.
Sun surge on Mallorca: Beaches come alive again
Temperatures rise, winds ease – the island breathes a sigh of relief
The week finally brings what many have been waiting for: sun, warmth and significantly calmer winds, a vibe captured in Late Summer in Mallorca: More Beach Days, Mild Nights and Relaxed Villages. According to AEMET, daytime values will rise noticeably; locally, temperatures near 30 °C are possible through Sunday. For anyone who still carried a jacket: it can now stay at home more often.
Nights are becoming friendlier too. Where it recently was around 11 to 12 °C, the weather service now expects about 16 to 17 °C. That means: leave windows open, put the grill on the balcony and no freezing during the evening walk along the Paseig Marítim.
There is good news for swimmers about the water: at some popular spots the 20-degree mark has been exceeded. At Playa de Palma temperatures are about 22 °C, Cala Major also reports around 22 °C and at Playa de Muro swimming temperatures of roughly 22 °C have been measured. So those brave enough to jump into the water early in the morning won't become ice bathers – on the contrary: the sea feels pleasant, as noted in Short escape from autumn: Mallorca gives us a few more beach days.
Recently particularly warm spots on the island were Colònia de Sant Pere with 27.9 °C, Sa Pobla and Artà with about 27.1 °C each, as well as Llucmajor (26.8 °C), Binissalem (26.5 °C) and Muro (26.0 °C). The numbers show: the sunshine is not distributed evenly, some places are already enjoying early spring–summer vibes.
What I heard this morning on a walk through Santa Catalina: the clinking of cups in open cafés, the scent of freshly baked ensaimadas and voices making plans for the beach. In the port of Port de Sóller you could see sailboats moored and the breakwater was calm even without wind – the red flags hung limp instead of fluttering in a storm.
Why is this good for Mallorca? Simply: street cafés breathe easier, craftsmen can work outdoors, and the island regains a piece of normality. Terrace seats become attractive again, promenades fill with families and older people using the sun as a small everyday joy. A stable, warm week is also better for agriculture than repeated cold snaps, because young shoots are less at risk.
A small note at the end: the sun is serious now. Anyone staying out longer should think about sun protection and avoid midday hours. Early risers currently have the best choice for beach, mountains or a cappuccino outdoors – the air is fresh, the light flatters the stone houses, and the island shows its friendlier side.
Outlook: If the high pressure stays, we can expect more warmth in the coming days and more people on the promenades, though previous short events like Mallorca swelters once more: Short heatwave brings late-summer warmth show it can intensify. For a few weeks the island will thus return to mild evenings, open windows and the soothing sound of waves – that's what Mallorca sounds like when spring finally picks up speed.
