SFM deploys extra trains between Palma and Inca – safe travel during the Advent season
When the lights go on at Plaça Major around 6 p.m. and the scent of mulled wine and roasted almonds fills the streets, many people ask the same question: How do I get home without stress? SFM has answered by adding extra trains between Palma and Inca during the Advent season. The service runs until January 4 and applies on all Advent weekends as well as on December 8 and January 6.
What exactly is running
A total of 16 special services are planned – eight reinforcement trains in each direction. The first extras leave Palma already in the afternoon at 15:25, the latest return is scheduled for 22:25. Particularly practical: all special trains stop at all stations between Palma and Inca. For families from smaller towns this means less rush, for visitors from the city less searching for parking and for everyone a more reliable return trip after wandering through the lights.
Why this offer makes sense now
The measure does not come out of nowhere. With the switching on of the Christmas lights in Palma, the Advent markets and weekend events inland, passenger numbers increase noticeably. On cool evenings, when street musicians play their last chords and the traders check the fairy lights one more time, many prefer the train to the car. The old town with its narrow streets can make finding a parking space a test of patience – the train saves you that nerve-wracking experience.
Tips for the journey
A little preparation makes the evening more relaxed: the Estació Intermodal in Palma can be busier at weekends than usual; the small kiosk on the platforms is a secret tip for the last hot coffee before departure. Check the times briefly on the SFM schedule for special Palma–Inca services, where all special services including departure platforms are listed. Plan a five to ten minute buffer — whether for a stroller, a last Christmas gift or because the Christmas choir is requesting an encore.
What this means for Mallorca
More trains not only mean fewer traffic jams in Palma: they mean shorter returns after family visits, a better connection between the city and the island's interior and a small economic boost for traders in Inca as well as restaurateurs in Palma. And at the evening stations you hear, instead of car horns, more often only the distant clatter of suitcase wheels and the quiet laughter of people setting off home relaxed.
At a time when every minute of cosiness counts, the additional train service is a small but fine service: more space on the pavement, less parking stress and more room for what matters during Advent — a hot sip, a short breath in the sea of lights and the feeling that the island draws together even in the cold season.
