Storms are over, island remains moody: What Mallorca's weather will be like in the coming days
The worst is over, but Mallorca stays changeable: local yellow warnings, pockets of heavy rain around midday, then sun again and warm bathing temperatures.
Storms have passed, but not forgotten: the island remains moody
Tuesday left its mark: on some streets cars stood half in water, in small coves detached fenders floated, and conversations at the Plaça Major's café tables became noticeably shorter and more businesslike. For Wednesday Aemet remained cautious: local yellow warnings – especially for the midday and afternoon hours.
Short and to the point for today
Between 12 and 19 UTC+1 the island's interior as well as the east, southeast and south coasts are particularly prone to heavy showers. Aemet warns of isolated intense rain and occasional thunderstorms, as discussed in First storm warning, then sun: How well is Mallorca prepared for this changeable weather?. If you are out and about today in Cala Millor, Campos or on the Passeig Marítim in Palma: an umbrella and a waterproof jacket are not a bad idea. The easterly wind tugged at the promenade this morning enough to rattle the straw parasols on the terraces.
Temperatures: Still summery, but milder
The island oscillates between a summery feel and pleasantly moderate temperatures. Highs generally range between 27 and 31 °C. Places like Sa Pobla and Sóller could reach up to 31 °C, while Deià in the Tramuntana is more likely to see 26–27 °C. So: there will be sunny windows, and the oppressive heat stays away for now.
Toward the weekend: more sun, more relaxed plans
From Thursday the situation calms down, reflecting the short late summer turnaround described in Short late summer — then a weather turnaround: What Mallorca needs to know now. It will be mostly dry with a mix of sun and clouds, temperatures around 29–31 °C and a light easterly breeze. Saturday looks good for beach days: Calvià and Andratx could reach around 29 °C, Palma about 30 °C. On Sunday clouds may increase locally again, but significant rain is not expected – ideal for keeping plans flexible for trips or market visits.
Sea temperature: a small consolation for swimmers
Good news for those who want to jump into the water immediately: the sea is still warm. Measurements on Wednesday morning showed values around 26.2 to 26.4 °C (Pollença, Andratx, Dragonera buoy). A spontaneous dip in the bay is therefore still worthwhile.
Practical tips for the next few days
After heavy rain, roads in valleys and on slopes can be slippery – so please drive carefully, especially early in the morning or in the afternoon. If you travel by bus or train: delays are possible if side routes are flooded. Anyone working outdoors — on construction sites, in gardens or on terraces — should plan flexible breaks; the afternoon weather can remain unpredictable.
A slice of island life
I was briefly in Colònia de Sant Jordi this morning: the sky alternated dramatically between thick clouds and bright light, seagulls cried above the harbor, and the sound of rain on tile roofs mixed with the clatter of a distant coffee machine. An older woman at the market was tucking small rubber boots into her bag, laughing and saying that the sea was still calling. These small scenes make the weather here almost charming – it's part of life, and the island refuses to be tamed.
Why this is good for Mallorca
Changeable weather may seem annoying at first, but it brings benefits: nature breathes easier, salt and dust are washed away, and bathing temperatures remain pleasant. For agriculture and the many gardens on the island, every shower is a welcome drink. Plans may be disrupted in the short term, but in the long run this mix contributes to the green, vibrant summer we all appreciate.
So: keep an eye on the sky, take an umbrella, have a plan B ready if needed — and when the sun comes through, enjoy the sea. The island remains moody, but lovable.
