Time Change Brings Autumn Weather to Mallorca — A Brief Calm, Then New Rain

After a stormy Thursday, the island takes a short break: sunny spells on Saturday, then heavy rain and cooler air from Sunday— just in time for the time change.

A brief lull after the storm – but autumn is knocking

If you were planning a stroll along Passeig this evening, you're lucky: the streets smell of wet asphalt, the trees at Plaça are half dry. After Thursday's strong storm, Mallorca is taking a brief respite for now. Meteorologists from Aemet say: Friday will be changeable, but noticeably calmer than the last 24 hours.

Friday: Clouds, somewhat less wind

On Friday we expect occasional clouds, sometimes also sunny spells. Temperatures hardly drop — daytime around 23 to 25 °C — and the wind blows mostly weak to moderate from the west, turning to the south in the afternoon. Good weather for a coffee outdoors, if you're not traveling through towns with puddles.

Saturday: One more beach day possible

Saturday brings a lull. Morning fog is possible in valleys, so be careful on rural roads like the MA-13. Otherwise it clears up. Highs can locally reach 25 to 28 °C — ideal for a short trip to Playa de Palma if the wind stays calm. In the evening the breeze shifts to northeast, but it becomes only slightly cooler.

Sunday: Time change and noticeable shift

And then the time change: In the night from Saturday to Sunday the clocks go back – and at the same time the weather really turns. From midday a new low-pressure system moves in, bringing heavy showers. Some regions see intense rain, in some places thunderstorms are also possible. Temperatures fall noticeably; highs around 20 °C are likely.

The northeast wind will strengthen and bring occasionally strong gusts. Especially exposed coastal sections and mountain passes should be prepared for sudden gusts. Aemet warns individually of heavy rainfall — nothing we haven't experienced this year, but unpleasant enough to pack the umbrella.

My tip if you're out this weekend: don't put the jacket away in the evening. And plan a bit more time for Sunday afternoon — whether shopping in Palma or on the drive to Sóller. The weather does what it wants. We’ll just go with it.
